Hilton Head Plantation is the Island’s second largest community. The community is quietly residential, and encompasses 4,000 wooded acres of land at the northern end of the Island. Indigo Run is a private residential and golf community located directly across Highway 278 from Hilton Head Plantation. The community encompasses 1,712 acres and at maturity will include 1200 to 1400 residences. Homesites in Indigo Run overlook the golf courses, lagoons or the marshes of Broad Creek. The Golden Bear Golf Course, designed by Golden Bear Design Associates, a Jack Nicklaus company, includes a clubhouse with casual grill and pro shop. The Golf Club at Indigo Run is a members-only signature golf course and includes a clubhouse and a full array of recreational amenities. Leamington is located in Palmetto Dunes Resort and is a very exclusive private community within a gated resort. It features 450 single family homes / homesites, along with the new Oceanfront Townhomes at South Shore. Leamington is private and is designated as a "non rental" area that does not allow short-term vacation rentals. It features two guard gated entries (one on Hwy 278, and one within the south area of Palmetto Dunes). Owners enjoy a private beach access club, the Arthur Hills Golf Course, a beautiful lagoon side pool, 11 miles of lagoons to boat on (non-power boats only, a recreation area, and the Lighthouse Park area.
